May 9, 2014

Well, we got some new neighbors today.  They were really excited
to move and seemed to make themselves right at home.

The policy of D.L.& L. is they move their cattle to different
pastures.  They have enough pastures that they are only
used once a year, sometimes once every two years.  They are only
in a pasture for about two weeks.  So, again, you see the
size of the ranch.

We will see them again in the later summer when they bring them and
separate them from their calves, I guess the crying and
calling is really loud.  Can't wait to experience that!

This is a water bottle holder that the groups can make that ties
on the back of a handcart.  Each trekker can keep their bottles
in a slot and have easy access to it.

We worked on a pattern and took these pictures so we could
e-mail the information to groups that are interested in making them.

This afternoon the Elders drove into Evanston to pick up four
new Rangers for us to use on the treks.  But because
we live in the snowing, wet plains they got stuck coming
back, actually they are almost home.

They had two truck and two trailers to carry the four.
They unloaded the Rangers and left the trailer stuck in the
mud.  They will wait for a drier day to get it out, they may
wait until August!

Here they are trying to clean off some of the mud.

But wait, what is this?  Blue skies?  Sun?  Oh, not for long, just
to tease us.

I don't know if you can see the water under the trailer, but they have
their own underhome swimming hole.  We have been waiting for
it to float away.  This isn't ours but it is two away from
us.  We are wet, but not that wet.

How cool does Jeff look in his new ride.  He says they
are pretty smooth.  We have two with roofs and windshields
the other two will get their roof when they arrive later.

I can't wait to get to ride the trails in these.  We are praying for
sun and dry, so we can get out.  We had to cancel a route review we
had scheduled for today and one on Monday because we can't get
out to show them their trails.

This is what we Sister's did today.  We put together two
baby quilts.  I never thought I would be making quilts when
I came here.  They have all kinds of fabric and several sets
of quilting frames.  And, check out that roll of batting!

We had a great time visiting and telling TALL TALES while
we worked around the quilt.  And can I tell you, I am again the odd duck.
They all  brought sewing machines, for real.  I was laughing inside.
They are all really involved in quilting, the real kind, not just tying them.
But, I held my own when we put them on the frames and set them
up, I can do that.  At the end of the afternoon I told them my
self esteem could be wounded except for one thing.....

I brought the iron!  Yep, that was my contribution to the sewing
fest.  And, speaking of irons.  Those of you who really know me
will be shocked at this.  I have not ironed any clothes the whole
time we have been here.  Not a shirt, not a pair of pants, nothing, until
today.  I did go to my closet and bring out a skirt I'd washed
and I ironed that today when we finished.  While I was ironing
quilt tops my iron was saying to me, "Hey, why don't she write?"

Another funny contribution I have made this week, you will all
be laughing out loud........I have been LEADING THE MUSIC
in the mornings!   How funny, you know I don't do that right,
I can do it, but I do it DEB STYLE.  Any of you who know me
know  what that is like.
They have all been loving my style.  We have been singing
Primary songs all week.  I haven't gotten them to let
me do Nephi's Courage yet, but you know I will
one day soon.  HaHaHaHaHa,  that is going to be funny.
And yes, I have already Kazoo'd two different people
on their birthdays.  That is a first for the Depot also.

May 7, 2014 Ammon & Jackson 7th Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AMMON AND JACKSON
Today is May 7, they are turning 7 and add 7 + 7 = 14= 2014
for those who love numbers.

Notice the sunny warm weather we are experiencing!
Really, we think we've seen more snow storms here than
we had in Cedar City the past few months.

So no trail riding or walking today.  Instead we worked on carts
again.  We have six now totally finished.
They are really beautiful, maybe to nice to use?  Nah, it's like
a truck, you want it in the mud and dirt then it is happy.
So, for lunch we finished up the chocolate almonds Chris and  Bishop Reynolds
gave to us just before we left.  They were concerned about Jeff not
getting enough chocolate.  As you can see,

He ate the last one!  Thanks for the treat.  Every time we ate
them we thought of you!
So as I sit here typing, one thought comes to mind,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT.

May 5, 2014

This happy face is the face of a man headed out to hit golf balls for the first
time in over two weeks.  He was so excited.  Pdays can be a real excitment.

I watched from the truck and enjoyed my time spent
reading a book.  It was great for me too!

Jeff was going to walk 9 holes, but his companion forgot
her walking shoes (remember I'm in a dress!) so he only got to
hit a bucket of balls and then putt a little on the putting green.
 Oh well, something
to look forward to next week.
To make up for the lost walk on the golf course we headed out
to walk part of the trail #6.  We left about 2:30 pm and got back
about 6:00pm.  We figure it was just over 9 miles.
This is Jeff's not so happy face as we neared the Depot.
I guess we should have taken the golf clubs with us and
we could have pretended to be on the course.  It was windy, as
usual, but otherwise an okay day.  We had fun with all
the antelope, we  saw tons of them and they saw us so they
were running every direction.  Life on the plains, where the
deer (not so many) and the antelope play.  In fact, we believe
the antelope do play, it is like a game of chicken, they run
away from you then back at you and if your in a car
they run across the road right in front of you!  A game for sure.

May 3, 2014

On Friday May 2nd We had some visitors, Squirrel and Cindy
drove our razor up from Cedar City.  Ray and Georgia rode with
them on up to Deseret Land & Livestock.
Just as we arrived at the gate a train came by, like usual.
We took them of a tour of the Depot, the Trek Center and then around
on the roads.  It was fun to show them the sights.  Georgia
especially loved the antelope.  Afterwards we all drove into
Evanston and had a great dinner at Jody's Diner.  We liked
it lots, the food was good but the company was
unbelievable!

Today we rode trails in the morning and then in the afternoon
we worked on making new handcarts,  That was so fun.

It is amazing how the process works from beginning to end.
Elder Nordick has a real system for building them and had
all of us doing what we were told to do.

This is Elder Cowan and Elder Shields with a finished product.
They were putting on the wheels and handles.

The Sisters were working to build the bed of the cart.
Yep, I got to drill and drive in screws on that beautiful wood.
I"m the one taking pictures so you can't see me in action.
You would have to hold on to your shorts if you saw
how awesome I looked with a drill in my hand!
We worked for over three hours and were able to build two
boxes and during that same time Jeff and Shields were
able to put on the wheels, axle, and handle bars.

We had such a good time.  We talked about putting our names on the
bottom of the box, underneath then decided that wouldn't be good.
We would be building monuments, not handcarts.  One Sister said,
"Maybe we could do it when no one is looking"  Me, I suggested
we could carve 2014 then we'd know it was us!  Again it was
decided to forgo fame and work on just plain service.  So, look
close so if you see the carts later you will know which ones I helped build.
Hahahahahahaha,

Two Carts finished, only 8 more to go.  Actually, we have 5 boxes
finished.  The welding on the axle takes a longer time to do.  And Morgan
you can't believe how it smells in the trek center, wood shavings everywhere!

Well, after working on the carts Jeff and I took out our razor and rode a trail.
We did great until we got to the camp for the third day.  It is called Lost Camp and
I have to tell you, it is still lost to Jeff and I!  We never did
see it, we found our way to the end of the trek, but
that third camp is no where to be seen.  Funny, right?
Hopefully, before we take a group there we'll find it
or they will be sleeping in the corrals.

April 30, 2014

We went to the Brigham City Temple today as a group.  Before
going to the Temple we went on a tour of the Tabernacle
that sits across the street.

One of the Sisters got to play the organ, she was pretty excited about that.
Her mother used to play the organ in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City.

This is Jeff doing what he loves to do, looking for symbols and
special patterns in the buildings.
The tulips were so TALL.  They looked so beautiful
both at the tabernacle and also the Temple Across the street
Yep, this would be the two of us!  Notice the coat, it was
a beautiful blue day but still a little cold at 10:30 am.  We are
looking from the Tabernacle toward the Temple.  We love the
fact each door lines up facing each other.
Our day also included a trip to Maddox's, that is a given
when you are in Brigham City.  Yum, Yum.  Jeff
brought the extra rolls home with him.

April 27, 2014

Hey look who showed up on our doorstep,or should I say at our gate!  Actually they
called us and just after they parked a train came between them and the frontage road so
they were between the locked gate and the train, waiting for us to come.
When we got close we could see the train and it was at a standstill!  We were
hoping Gib and Char were right next to the fence and not on the other side.
They were.  They had Sigg with them also.

Gib is looking more and more like the Dad don't you think?

Me, I think Sigg looks like me!  Oh all right, he does have more hair, that is
true.
It was fun to visit with them and to have them closer to us.

We took them around to see all the cool old buildings and the new Trek
Center.  We then went and rode a few roads.  We couldn't take them
where we wanted to because it was to wet and the roads are clay
in some area's.

We came back and Gib, Char and Sigg were our first Dinner Guests.
We had a stir fry, and some cookies, not homemade cookies.  Actually
store cookies left from General Conference weekend.

Sigg's favorite place was under the table curled in a ball.  He did
enjoy all the antelope running in the meadows next to the truck.
We let him smell out the window, but no chasing for him.
All to soon it was time for them to leave but they left with
promises to come visit again.  They are just over an hour away.

April 25, 2014

Today I finally got to put my feet upon a trek trail.  I went with three other
sisters for a walk.  The wind was blowing and so what is new.

This is trail #6 and they all say this is a favorite.

Heading back to the Depot.  Flag blowing in the Breeze

Here are two pillows given to us when we left.
The Family one is from Amy and Danny Bedard.
The other one is a 100% pillow from our friends
Gary and Sandy Johnson.  He is the authority
on 100%.

Here are all the notes we have been finding from Morgans
family.  We are still finding them 5 days later.

They are so funny and help us think of home.
